Armando.info is a community of journalists born in Venezuela amidst the crisis and media censorship. Its goal is to provide an independent platform that supports and assists Venezuelan and Latin American journalists in reporting transnational stories that are well-narrated and in-depth, which might not fit elsewhere.
The platform is a reference in Venezuela for investigative journalism on topics such as money laundering, human rights, and environmental issues, through well-narrated stories that benefit from the support and mentorship of professionals and global journalist networks. Examples of international collaborations include the Panama Papers and WikiLeaks.
Armando.info first appeared in 2010 as an emerging investigative journalism project. However, its formal launch was on Sunday, July 20, 2014. Since then, it has published weekly investigative stories with precise, documented, and well-written information. As of October 2017, the Armando.info community has produced and disseminated over three hundred reports.
Although it is an emerging media outlet, Armando.info has featured work by some of the best investigative journalists in Venezuela. It has also developed and published pieces in partnership with established media such as El Universo from Ecuador, El Nuevo Herald from Miami, Clarín from Argentina, La Nación from Costa Rica, Semana from Colombia, and Confidencial from Nicaragua. Notable among these is the high-impact investigation “Propietarios de la censura,” conducted over a year with the Instituto de Prensa y Sociedad and Poderopedia, which was recognized as one of the three most innovative works nominated for the 2015 Gabriel García Márquez Prize by the Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano. Another significant case is the HSBC scandal, a project coordinated by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) based in Washington, where Armando.info participated as the Venezuelan correspondent in a network of 66 media outlets.
