Reporter Profile

Mering is my “ples” name (traditional name). It means beautiful. I share the same name with my paternal grandmother.

I was born on the 3rd of March 1987 in Port Moresby. My father comes from a very rural district in West Sepik Province. Getting to the nearest town will take one whole day to walk to the main road before getting on a Public Motor Vehicle (PMV) the next day. My mother is also from a remote village along the mighty Purari River in Gulf Province. Her family is said to benefit from the Papua LNG Project. It is a Patrilineal society so my mother has no say over the monetary benefits.

I have a background in Journalism and Media. I worked in the electronic media (radio and television) for over 10 years. The highlight of my Journalism and Media career would be investigating the methamphetamine story. We unfortunately were let go by the Government run television station Media Nuigini Limited (EMTV).
The need to continue investigations into the methamphetamine production and route resulted in the creation of Inside PNG with Ms Kila Wani.
