Roberth Orihuela is a journalist from the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín de Arequipa. Since 2015 he has worked in publications like Noticias, El Pueblo, Sin Fronteras, Diario Viral, La República, Pancarta.pe, Semanario Revelación and Convoca. He has been part of the Connectas.org hub of writers since 2021.
He’s specialized in investigative reporting, data and environmental coverage. He has published stories on corruption in the Arequipa region, socioenvironmental problems stemming from mining, climate change and human rights thanks to grants by Internews, Connectas, Inquire First, the Fund for Investigative Journalist and the Pulitzer Center.
His story “Dead Rivers: Mining scars in Peru’s south was awarded the Interamerican Press Society Award and along with Convoca, he was a finalist for the Gabo Award in the Coverage category, for stories on the killing of Peruvian citizens during the strike against the government of Dina Boluarte.
