AMSTERDAM/LONDON—Report for the World is pleased to announce that it is partnering with climateXchange, the flagship initiative of the UK-based nonprofit Syli. The partnership will foster collaboration among local news organisations worldwide to help them reach and engage new audiences by covering climate-related stories.
Through the partnership, Report for the World will serve as the climateXchange European hub—bringing together newsrooms across the continent to share knowledge on their most impactful reporting, best practices for creating deeper audience engagement, and new approaches to working collaboratively to rewire the media’s coverage of climate change.
“Working with climateXchange to convene this hub is part of our regional hub strategy, where we are working with partner organisations situated in different parts of the world to advance critical area-focused journalism with context and specificity,” said Preethi Nallu, executive director of Report for the World.
“There’s a strong need for solutions-driven climate reporting that lifts local voices. As a global program, we are well positioned to link European media members of climateXchange with newsrooms across the globe,” added Nallu. “The Report for the World team is excited to collaborate with these, and other regional partners, to link cross-border stories and trends in reporting.”
ClimateXchange’s regional partners include the Wits Centre for Journalism (WCJ) in Africa and WAN-IFRA in Southeast Asia.
The launch of climateXchange comes at a pivotal time when the media’s coverage of climate change is under intense scrutiny, amid a backdrop of extreme weather events and increasing concerns about record-breaking global temperatures. ClimateXchange recently published its first Insights report—focused on newsroom challenges facing Southeast Asia’s climate reporting.

Beyond sharing content with a broader audience, Report for the World hopes that partnering with climateXchange will help identify sustainable financial models that can be integrated into the editorial practices of its member newsrooms—which currently number 32, in 20 countries across the globe.
